The Pastoral Care Team had a very eventful and encouraging year. During the past scholastic year we managed to restore a healthy equilibrium in our interventions. We were able to identify the areas that need immediate preventive intervention. Vis-à-vis students at risk we managed to widen our interventions so as to deal with the main factors causing the problem.
St Martin’s College Spirit/Student Participation – one of the aims for the year 2006-07 was to propagate the St Martin’s College spirit. Activities were planned in such a way so as to make students feel a sense of belonging in their classroom, their level and at College.
Classroom leagues contributed immensely to create strong team spirit. In this respect sports days were the acme of success. Likewise the school-leaving ceremony, including the hard work put into shooting the fifth formers' film most definitely contributed towards instilling a sense of pride and belonging.
Inter-school competitions, level outings, and various games organized as a class in the beginning of the year were also effective.
Our "class of the month" scheme instilled healthy competitive spirit and encouraged each class to aim for better results. We welcome suggestions to improve our rewarding system even further.
The integration programme, co ordinated by Ms Kathleen and Ms Eleanor had a direct impact on the students' perception of their school and their responsibilities within it.
Internet Safety Day included talks which were useful to all as they tackled the root issues concerning the use and abuse of this modern day phenomenon .
Thanks to the contribution made by the parents' circle our students were able to make use of the Common Room for various needs , sometimes during break times. This initiative , also of a pastoral nature, has proved to be popular.
Collections -The initiatives taken by teachers to collect for charitable organizations provided the students with an opportunity to move away from seeking out their own
needs and to appreciate how lucky they are.
The Parents' Circle along with the school maintenance team worked together in order to refurbish the school chapel.
We would like to thank Mr Xuereb, the Pastoral Care Team and the Parents’ Circle for their on-going dedication.
