LAMDA Exams
All Drama Troupe students over the age of 5 years have the option of sitting for individual or group exams in July. Examiners from LAMDA come down to Malta to examine the students who spend the final term preparing for these examinations. These internationally recognised exams have recently been officially recognized and given accreditation by the UCAS board. Around 150 students sit for examinations every year and Drama Troupe boasts of a 100% pass rate. Students between the ages of 5 and 7 are prepared for Introductory, Preparatory and Preliminary examinations. These exams consist of the recitation and performance of a given poem and a short discussion with the examiner about a given theme. At 8 years, students can choose between acting and musical theatre. the acting exams consist of set and free monologues, history and background information about various plays and questions about the stage and various drama skills including characterisation. Musical Theatre exams on the other hand focus on different styles of song which are staged and performed by the students. In the higher exams, these songs have to be preceded by a monologue. theory includes knowledge about the vocal tract, vocal health and hygiene. On passing their Grade 6 ( Level standard) students receive a bronze medal, while in Grade 7 and Grade 8 ( A level standard), students receive a silver and a gold medal respectively.
