Drama Troupe is a musical Theatre School for children and young adults.
It has been established since November 1999 when Artistic Director
Lorraine Aquilina and Musical Director Gillian Zammit produced the first
musical ' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.' The musical included
80 children from various schools on the island who performed together
with established actors and singers, Philip Stilon, Claudette Pace and
Mario Ellul. This musical saw the launching of a project which now
caters for almost 200 students between the ages of 4 and 16 years.
Several of its former students have qualified in various aspects of
musical theatre and today form part of the energetic and enthusiastic
staff which together with the students are the heart and soul of this
Drama School. The various classes held are an excellent way to improve
confidence, develop new skills and make friends. The programme and
structured syllabus are a great means for children to express themselves
and work off any excess energy. Challenging and interesting classes
allow students to develop their skills and stage awareness through drama
games, improvisation, audition techniques and script work.
Classes
take place at Chiswick House School in Kappara which houses a fully
functional theatre where regular productions are held. Dance classes are
held in the ballet studio while drama classes and singing classes are
held in the various drama rooms and music studios.
Students have
the option of sitting for LAMDA examinations in Acting or Musical
Theatre at the end of the year. The school boasts of a 100% pass rate
with excellent grades achieved in the various levels. Prizes and
Scholarships have been awarded to students at various levels throughout
the year.
